Urban answers the call for blood |

Urban is no stranger to giving. Whether it’s “Toys For Tots” or sending packages overseas to the men and women in the military, Urban is always generous and caring.
That is why it was no surprise that the firm’s Second Annual Red Cross Blood Drive was a success with 26 pints of blood being donated by Urban’s employees at the Philadelphia office. The 26 pints marks an increase since the last effort.
“The American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Region supports 134 hospitals with
their blood needs,” said Jeanna Savage, Account Manager for the American Red Cross
Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region. “Since blood cannot be manufactured in a laboratory, it can only come from healthy human beings that are 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds or more, and have waited 56 days between donations, we rely on many types of sponsors to help us meet the needs of our local area patients.
“Corporations, high schools, colleges, hospitals, churches/synagogues, and community groups comprise our sponsors. Each pint we collect can save as many as three lives in our community.”
A single donation can be separated into three basic components and given to different patients. For example, a single donation’s red cells can be given to someone suffering from sickle cell, the plasma to a burn victim, and the platelets to a person battling cancer.
No matter how things are divided, Urban continues to answer the call.
