Six-Lane Wide Pennsylvania Turnpike Opened

Urban Engineers staff, together with local and state officials, contractors, and Turnpike staff attended ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the newly widened six-lane section of the East-West Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Valley Forge Interchange and the Norristown Interchange in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Urban developed the preliminary and final design to widen the Turnpike between Milepost 326.01 and Milepost 331.33. Urban had previously prepared the feasibility study.

Urban’s design responsibility included overall design of the project, including the erosion and sediment pollution control plan, maintenance and protection of traffic plan, obtaining necessary permits, and preparing bidding documents. Under a separate contract, Urban provided construction management and oversight services.

The ceremonies celebrated the $330 million total reconstruction and widening of this Turnpike section. According to Turnpike officials, it was “the largest project to be completed in the region since the construction of the Mid-County Interchange in 1991.”

Ed D’Alba, Joe McAtee, Matt Marquardt, Mike Leinheiser, Gus Dores, and Mike Wetzel attended for Urban.
