PHL Fuel Facilities, LLC selected Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, with Urban Engineers, to provide design services for the Hydrant Fuel System and Tank Farm Expansion at Philadelphia International Airport.
Urban will provide design and construction phase services as part of the construction of the new hydrant fuel system and expansion of the existing tank farm facility. The project’s design calls for constructing two 60,000-barrel fuel storage tanks, control building additions, new transmission piping and load rack modifications to the hydrant system, and new hydrant system looping the existing terminal.
Urban will develop civil/site engineering documents based on fuel storage and distribution system requirements employed by Burns and McDonnell. The plans will include layout of the new fuel storage tanks, containment walls, service roads, existing utilities, existing and proposed lease lines, proposed site grading, construction phasing plans, and gate closures.
Urban will also provide inspection staff available on-site on a full-time basis after construction begins. Coordination with airport operations and the airlines will be vital throughout the project to deal with airfield safety and operational issues.
Construction is anticipated to be finished within five years.
