Urban Awarded I-95/I-276 Connection Project

Urban Engineers was selected to provide Construction Management Services for the I-95/I-276 Connection Project by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

The estimated cost of construction for the project is in excess of $700 million.  It is currently anticipated the construction will be completed over a period of 10 years and will include approximately 15 construction contracts.

One of the most challenging infrastructure projects undertaken in the region, this interchange project will directly connect the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-95 in Bucks County, PA, thus making I-95 continuous throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.  It is also anticipated that the project will have significant impacts on the area’s economy, tourism, and quality of life.

Under consideration since 1969 when I-95 was completed through Bucks County, Stages 1 and 2 of the Connection Project will include:

  • Building a high-speed interchange that directly connects the Turnpike and I-95;
  • Building a new mainline toll plaza;
  • Widening and reconstructing the Mainline between Route 1 and Delaware River Bridge
  • Upgrading and modifying two existing interchanges
  • Implementation of ITS facilities for incident and traffic management
  • Construction of a new Turnpike maintenance facility in Trevose

The main goals of the project are to provide an improved linkage between the Turnpike and I-95 for easier interstate travel; complete I-95 through the Mid-Atlantic Region; reduce the amount of traffic on local roads utilized to make the connection between I-95 and the Turnpike; increase the capacity on the Turnpike and I-95 to accommodate the transfer of traffic from local roads to the interstates; and to improve travel time by reducing traffic delays.
