DRPA Picks Urban for $15 Million PATCO Project

The Delaware River Port Authority selected Urban to provide construction management and inspection services for the Rehabilitation of the Direct Fixation Track Structure on the Collingswood Viaduct.

Constructed in 1969, the Collingswood Viaduct carries the PATCO High Speed Line’s mainline double-track.  The existing track fastening system is the original installation in the area of the viaduct.  This rehabilitation project involves replacing the single-elastic direct fixation with a modern rail support that provides excellent electric and dynamic insulation properties, reduces noise, and increases protection of the structure and the environment from wheel-rail vibration.

Construction on this $15 million project will include removing the existing rail fasteners and deteriorated top layer of the supporting concrete, and replacing it with the Pandrol Vanguard Direct Fixation System.  The Pandrol Vanguard System was installed on a test section of the viaduct and performed as intended.

Urban’s tasks include monitoring construction activities; coordinating track outages and force account operations; monitoring the project schedule; performing constructability reviews; preparing progress payments; chairing progress meetings; reviewing technical submittals; and assisting PATCO with community relations.
