Outreach Effort a Success

Urban’s Jessa Ellenburg recently organized a field trip for a number of Philadelphia high-schoolers to Lehigh University’s Real Time Multi-Directional Testing Facility at the ATLSS engineering research center and laboratory.

Part of her Leadership Circle Project aiming to "Bring Engineering to Philadelphia Urban Youth,” the trip took 31 10th grade students from Germantown High School to Lehigh to learn about engineering.

Urban’s Leadership Circle Program was established several years ago to provide opportunities for the firm’s emerging leaders to head initiatives that are important to the individual and Urban.

This field trip was a major success with the students, according to an article that appeared in the Philadelphia Daily News.

“It was great,” Shaneil Dunn told the Daily News. “I learned a lot about earthquakes, and how engineers have to build bridges and buildings to make them safe. Now, geometry class makes sense.”

Ellenburg was accompanied on the trip by fellow Urbanites Ken Fulmer, PE, CCM, and David D’Alba.
