The Chemical Heritage Foundation Museum and Conference Center drew rave reviews at the recent unveiling of its $20 million renovation.
Marvin Waxman Consulting Engineers (MWCE), a subsidiary of Urban Engineers, provided the comprehensive archival and traveling exhibit quality mechanical and electrical systems.
Located in the 300 block of Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, the Chemical Heritage Foundation is dedicated to the history of chemistry.
The project included remodeling two historic bank buildings and creating 20,000 square feet of space for exhibition galleries, offices, and meeting rooms. This required developing a mezzanine level where one never existed. The unique nature of the building and tight space requirements required close coordination with the architect, SaylorGregg Architects.
This project also incorporated numerous LEED concepts. MWCE performed the energy efficiency and MEP-related LEED sustainability design. LEED-related work accomplished included identifying and assessing cost-effective energy efficiency measures, and identifying, assessing, and incorporating green or sustainable technologies and concepts into the design.
