Fort Washington Station is an Award-winner

The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) has announced its annual Montgomery Awards for outstanding land development and revitalization projects in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Fort Washington Station on the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s R-5 Lansdale Regional Rail Line was named a winner of a 2008 Land Development Award.

Urban was responsible for the design of the station’s parking lot and pedestrian tunnel. The parking supply at Fort Washington was tripled to a 587-space facility with improved site drainage, lighting, landscaping, vehicle circulation, and intermodal transfer. The ADA-accessible underground pedestrian tunnel provides for safe access between platforms. The stormwater management system includes a large underground detention basin that reduces the potential for downstream flooding.

According to the MCPC, “This project is an excellent example of a multimodal design that accommodates trains, buses, automobiles, bicycles, and pedestrians…The reconstruction and expansion of the station is an outstanding improvement to the R-5 rail line…the Fort Washington Station is an asset to the community and benefits many passengers.”
