City of Erie Selects Urban for Streetscape Project

Urban Engineers of Erie has been selected to prepare a master plan for a 70-block area of its Downtown District, including the final design for the nine-block midtown Union Station Opportunity Zone Streetscape. This high-profile project will bring to fruition many recent and important efforts to revitalize downtown Erie.

This project continues Urban’s strong presence in Erie transportation development, from the early environmental impact statement studies for the Bayfront Connector, to recent studies of the 12th Street Congested Corridor. Our most recent work in the Downtown District is the PA 5 (12th Street) Corridor Traffic Signal Retiming Study. The Urban Team for this study includes Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin and Dahlkemper Landscape Architects & Contractors.

The $3.3 million for the project’s construction was recently awarded as one of the first initiatives under the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Pennsylvania Community Transportation Initiative Program. These funds are designated for projects that incorporate Smart Transportation principles and the ability to implement local land use actions in support of the transportation investment.
