The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Construction Institute (CI) has selected 10 young engineers from a multidisciplinary pool of applicants to participate in the first in a series of technical documentaries or case studies that will be distributed and used in various forums across the nation. One of these individuals is Urban’s John DiValentino, PE, LEED® AP, who is currently posted to the USAirways Ground Service Equipment Facility at Philadelphia International Airport.
The studies are designed to offer participants “the opportunity to create a unique knowledge base designed to address common challenges that arise between the engineering and construction processes of construction projects. By documenting means and methods from a variety of viewpoints, CI aims to foster open communications and increased understanding among professionals involved in a constructed project from planning and design to construction and completion, to reduce time delays, costs and safety issues that arise when plans are not executable or when production is not executed as planned.”
CI has established a multidisciplinary committee of engineering and construction professionals to explore the challenges in the technical aspects of the construction process when shifting from a project’s engineering and design phase to its construction phase. The first case study will focus on Caissons and is intended to result in multi-media documentation that will help both newcomers and veterans.
