Urban Sponsors Future City Competition

Urban participated as a Silver Sponsor in the 14th annual Philadelphia Regional Future City Competition. This year’s competition was held in Philadelphia at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall at Delaware and Washington Avenues.

The annual Future City Competition is the culmination of months of work. Teams consist of 7th and 8th grade students from area middle schools. The students design their vision of a future city, including everything from the city name and location to the infrastructure contained within. The students are required to create five final products: an abstract about their city, a virtual SimCity design, a physical model of the city, an essay on an engineering problem, and a oral team presentation.

Urban sponsored the Superior Communications Award, which is judged on the students’ ability to explain the concepts and visions of their creations. This Special Award is given in addition to the ranked “place” awards. JT Lambert Intermediate School, of East Stroudsburg PA, was honored with Urban’s award. 

Urban personnel also participated as mentors, judges, and Steering Committee members.
