Urban Selected to Update PennDOT Publication

Urban has been selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Bureau of Design to prepare an update of its Publication 448, Innovative Bidding Toolkit. Publication 448 is the Department's Guidelines for Design-Build Project Processes. The update will be developed by Urban to reformulate the Design-Build process information, to provide better guidance to the end user and include checklists, flowcharts, and examples to clarify the process

Urban will research existing information pertaining to design-build, including information from other states and other state agencies. Additionally, it will be necessary to research all of PennDOT’s publications and manuals to determine which documents will need to be updated to correspond to recommended changes in Publication 448.

Under this contract, Urban will recommend improvements to PennDOT’s current Design-Build process that reflect “best practices” for design-build transportation projects.

Urban will also prepare training manuals and PowerPoint presentation materials for PennDOT to train its staff and other consultants on the updated guidelines.
