Two Urban Projects Win CMAA Awards

The Mid Atlantic Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) presented Urban with two project awards:

The Walt Whitman Bridge Painting, New Jersey Deck Spans, won the award for Infrastructure Projects Under $20 Million.  The Delaware River Port Authority’s project scope consisted of removing existing lead-based paint and preparing and applying a new high-performance paint coating system to the nine spans on the New Jersey side.  The project also involved managing challenges (working at high elevations and working over several busy roads, an active railroad, adjacent to businesses and residences, and over high voltage power lines), as well as a myriad of other items inherent in a project of this complexity.

The Horse Valley Road Bridge Reconstruction Project won the award for Infrastructure Projects Under $1 Million.  Believed to have been built during the mid-1800s, the three-span stone masonry arch bridge takes Horse Valley Road/SR 4004 over the Conodoguinet Creek in the village of Fannettsburg, Franklin County.  The 290-foot-long bridge needed $350,000 worth of rehabilitation.  The bridge was one of four 19th century turnpike bridges built in Franklin County, and one of the very few stone bridges still standing and in use.

The historical integrity of this bridge was maintained by incorporating stone from the original structure to enhance the bridge’s aesthetic appeal and also lengthen the bridge’s lifespan. This project also received special recognition due to Urban’s overall professionalism through maintaining safety, meeting project deadlines, and creating a sustainable construction project by incorporating green building methods and materials.
