APWA Names Urban Project "Environmental Project of the Year"

The Western New York Chapter of the American Public Works Association has named the Wetland Treatment of Glycol Impaired Stormwater at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport its Environmental Project of the Year for 2009.

The award promotes excellence in the management and administration of public works projects by recognizing the partnership between the managing agency and the participating consultants and contractors.

As a subconsultant to Jaques Whitford/Stantec, Urban was responsible for providing stormwater analysis/design, civil design, structural design, and related specifications and details for design of the stormwater system, which treats glycol runoff from de-icing fluid.  The system utilizes an emerging patented technology of "Stormwater Engineered Wetlands," which are entirely below ground surface aerated gravel beds.
