One of America’s busiest rapid-transit commuter railroads, Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) Railroad, selected Urban Engineers to provide On Track Safety and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance training courses for a three year period. The courses will assist PATH in complying with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) mandate (CFR
Title 49, Part 214) for annual track safety training for all railroad and contractor workers.
In addition to owning ports, bridges, tunnels, airports, high-rise buildings, and the World Trade Center (WTC), The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) owns and operates PATH. The PATH Railroad is a vital interstate link to daily commuters entering and leaving NYC, with average weekday passenger trips totaling about 250,000. Additionally, it serves as a major passenger railroad that connects NYC to NJ and the Northeast Corridor.
Urban’s Safety Manager Chris Connor and Phil Liberto will conduct 80 to 100 safety training classes for PATH annually. Both Connor and Liberto have prior rail operating and safety training experience - Connor with Metropolitan Transportation Authority New York City Transit and Liberto with Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. Connor, formerly a Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) fire marshal, has provided safety training for such clients as Los Alamos National Laboratory, The American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of American Military Engineers, The American Society of Safety Engineers, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Silverstar Productions, CityKids, and New York University.
“Urban is thrilled to provide safety training services to not only one of America’s busiest and fastest-growing commuter railroads, but also its most courageous and resilient,” said Connor. “Following 9/11, the PATH railroad management and personnel were faced with the monumental challenge of rebuilding WTC and Exchange Place stations to keep businesses and employees working in lower Manhattan. They have responded with a decade of growth and modernization. We are proud to be of service to PATH during this dynamic time in the history of their railroad.”
